Javier Puyó, new Pepper Breeder & Global Breeding Lead – january 2021

We are pleased to announce that our pepper breeder Francisco Javier Puyó has become the new Pepper Breeder & Global Breeding Lead at worldwide level starting January 1, 2022.

Through this new role, Javier becomes responsible for leading the development and execution of the breeding strategy for hot and sweet peppers, pipeline development, and resource planning for the global pepper R&D. Javier will also continue breeding competitive sweet pepper varieties for the protected culture market based in Almeria, Spain.

Javier joined UG Spain in April 2018 and owns more than 10 years experience in the intensive agriculture business focused in pepper. He holds and Agricultural Engineering Degree from the University of Almeria and completed his master’s in Plant Breeding and Genetics with Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Last November Javier joined our WW R&D meeting in Hollister (California, USA) head office to review our breeding strategy in the next 3 years.
